The Senior Controller will focus on managing the financial matters for Kipling North, Kipling South, and smaller business units. In addition, this role supervises accounting personnel that administer the accounting duties for Zanathane Canada and Tilbury plants. The incumbent must understand all plant financial operations. Key deliverables include forecasting, budgeting, costing, quoting, variance analysis, month-end closing and SRP preparation, KPI reporting, commercial support and financial presentations. The role supports the financial aspects of multiple business units within the Kipling plant: Moulded, Zanathane, and Engineered Composites, etc. The position will also be supporting special projects as assigned. Administratively, this position will report to the Plant Managers of Kipling North and Kipling South. However, functionally this role is accountable to the Regional Finance manager – US & Canada Moulded Foam as well as the Regional Finance Manager – Flexible Foam & Lamination and Technical Foam. Responsibilities will include financial stewardship and driving continuous improvement initiatives for the operations in the Kipling facilities under the direction of the Plant Manager(s).
Responsibilities
- Support annual budgeting processes including sales volume assumptions; Business Unit Budget Preparation, Consolidation and Presentation
- Working closely with key BU leaders to evaluate monthly results and budget/forecast to actual variances
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and yearly forecast with input from plant management.
- The individual acts as a business partner to secure profitable new business, drive improved controls, analytics, and reporting, while acting as an owner to improve profit and performance
- Accurate, timely and consistent presentation of financial results, financial presentations and analysis
- Maintain spreadsheets to support Quoting and assess the profitability of products and customer connections. Provide support to Commercial for quoting, RMI and LTA negotiations
- Become thoroughly knowledgeable in all Woodbridge plant software including: Advance Tracker, ADP, Client Connect, Scotia Connect, Smartsheet, GRS, ITS and I-Series Navigator
- Become a power user with thorough knowledge of CMS. Conduct maintenance of CMS data and programming and improve the functionality of CMS to support all locations
- As a member of the management team, be involved in: Kamishibais, kaizens, value-stream analysis, manage 2 HS&E elements, and conduct TS audits
- Manage, supervise and develop a financial team of 5 direct reports
Qualifications
- Professional accounting education with 5–8 years progressive experience in a process based manufacturing environment, with additional exposure to a corporate environment (or equivalent).
- The ability to demonstrate a high level of technical and managerial skills in the accounting/operations environment.
- Previous experience in cost, general and manufacturing accounting systems, with an emphasis on strong standard costing knowledge
- A high level of competency in analytical and computer skills (both PC and mainframe)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on the ability to work effectively with different cultures
- Willingness to travel on a regular basis with potential for some international travel
- Professional designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA etc.).
