Position Summary
Provide technical support to manufacturing locations through process related problem solving, process improvements and cost reduction programs, and the development and implementation of improved formulations, methods, equipment and associated technology, new product launches and new plant startups. Support, coordinate and assist in sampling activities. Prepare and analyze technical reports.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop formulations and pour patterns to meet production specifications
- Responsible for the daily process operations and the department KPI
- Identify, evaluate, and lead projects leading to process improvement (continuous improvement).
- Manage projects that will drive financial savings in the process areas like scrap, chemical variance, chemical yield, throughput, productivity
- Liaison with maintenance to solve process equipment problems
- Liaison with production to address production concerns
- Liaison with Quality to address customer concerns and structured problem solving
- Participate in health & safety and quality audit process and implementation in the department.
- Write and update run sheets, SOTS, procedures, etc.
- WPS and lean implementation in the department starting from Kaizen, 5S, NWT, etc.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical and mechanical engineering (4-year credited program)
- One to two years’ experience in an engineering role
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Good verbal and interpersonal skills
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Knowledge of SPC and automotive quality standards, statistical experiments, ladder logic, metering pumps, drives, sensors and transducers, control theory, hydraulics, pneumatic are assets.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and Kaizen is a plus
- Required to work various shifts
- Computer skills, such as AutoCAD, Windows, spreadsheets, databases and word processing software
Effort / Working conditions
Physical Effort – B. Almost continuously sitting in the same position or standing/walking. Frequent requirement to lift/handle material or equipment of moderate weight.
Physical Environment – B. Occasional exposure to factors such as temperature extremes, moving machinery, noise, and fumes which cause noticeable discomfort.
Sensory Attention – C Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time, where stimuli are changing.
Mental Stress – B. Work and/or environmental are very repetitious. There is noticeable pressure from deadlines, production requirements, accuracy or similar demands. Unpleasant contacts or concerns in unpleasant situations are probable.
