Role Purpose:
Develop chemical formulations and manufacturing processes for new products to be produced. Assisting sales and marketing in customer presentations and line trials. Develop product specs to meet application and customer process using test methods which may be outside the normal scope.
Major Responsibilities and Activities:
- Develop chemical formulations that meet customer requirements and are application/manufacturing ready
- Develop chemical formulations targeted at optimizing process chemistry for COPQ/physical property requirements
- Interface with suppliers and provide feedback on raw material qualifications via presentations
- Interface with customers, suppliers and plants with respect to raw material qualifications, reporting out findings and discussing recommendations for raw materials
- Research literature for new chemical processes and applications
Physical requirements to carry out routine duties
- Moving chemicals up to 20kg
- Manually weighting and mixing chemical mixtures with tabletop mixers
- Manually mixing chemicals by operating tabletop mixers
- Pouring foam by crushing and squeezing chemical compositions out of popcorn cups
- Operating lab molds (Test block mold, flow mold etc.) by manually pushing and pulling lock handles to close and open the molds
- Operating sprayer to apply mold release onto mold
- Operating other manual equipment/tools
- Operating lab scale foaming machines
- Operating analytical instruments
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5-7 years of polyurethane/polymers experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Chemical or Chemistry Working Experience
Additional Qualifications
- Experience in the formulation of polyurethane foam
- Strong knowledge of urethane chemistry and its processing
- Demonstrated strong communication skills including technical presentations, collaboration with Corporate Purchasing, customer technical teams, and supplier development
