The following job description is general and meant to serve as a guide only. Additional job functions may be added as required.
- General Responsibilities
- Focus on implementation of continuous improvement, scrap reduction and variation reduction programs
- Apply standard 8-D, 5Y or similar problem-solving process to re-occurring production defects to eliminate root causes.
- Participate in production troubleshooting as needed with team of lead hands and technicians.
- Responsible for implementation, maintenance, and enforcement of HSE Modules as assigned.
- Responsible for improvement projects from start of defining the project to completed implementation.
- Responsible for various plant improvements projects in conjunction with maintenance.
- Conduct planned experiments possibly full level D.O.E.’s
- Responsible for ensuring that the production schedule is met in an efficient and effective manner to maximize plant efficiency and meet customer requirements.
- Maintain control of department labor cost including overtime, and maximize labor utilization.
- Promote and lead lean manufacturing and continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen and 5S initiatives by utilizing Woodbridge Production System tools.
- Ensure set-up and cycle times are met.
- Responsible for decision-making and problem-solving on any technical or scheduling issues and coordinating with other shifts to ensure good communication.
- Responsible for supervision of all hourly plant employees on that shift, including employee coaching, discipline and scheduling of work.
- Responsible for ensuring quality standards are met according the quality management system and TS16949 requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment for all employees, including providing instruction on safe operations, necessary personal protective equipment and good housekeeping.
- Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all production paperwork.
- All other related duties as assigned by the Manufacturing Manager.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

- Knowledge of EPP foam processing or injection moulding processing (using Kurtz or Teubert equipment) preferred
- Mechanical aptitude and desire to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Experience in equipment selection and process optimization.
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal and project management skills
- Knowledge of SPC (advanced), APQP, CARS, automotive quality standards (including TS16949), statistical experiments and various reduction principles and practices;
- Previous supervisory experiences an asset but not required.
- Computer skills, including MS Excel, MS Access, data collection software, SPC software or equivalent, PM Expert
- Exposure to environmental legislation and reporting an asset but not required.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Engineering degree (Chemical or Mechanical preferred) or equivalent combination of education and work experience
PEFORMANCE EXPECTATION AND MEASURABLES:
- Through provided training, develop strong understanding of EPP moulding and operation of Kurtz and Teubert moulding machines
- Sampling on time to monthly schedule
- Sample parts meeting customer critical characteristics (example: part weight CPK > target)
- Meeting quoted parameters of new products (example cycle time or amount of labour usage)
- Meeting Environmental legislative reporting deadlines for specifically assigned HS&E elements
