GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an active member of the Maintenance Team, duties will be defined by the expectations of the Production Schedule. Repairs and maintains machinery, plumbing, physical structures and fixtures of all aspects of the operation performing any combination of the following duties:
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing machine setup, tool changeovers, troubleshooting, mechanical repairs, tool and mold maintenance, fabrication, and preventative maintenance activities in support of production. This role responds to breakdowns, reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, P&IDs, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, identifies root causes of equipment failures, drives corrective actions, and supports downtime reduction initiatives. The position also performs tooling repairs and modifications, fabrication, welding, machine shop work, equipment installation support, and plant support system repairs while maintaining safety, documentation, 5S, and continuous improvement standards. In addition support plants HSE & CI objectives
Maintenance Activities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production equipment, plant support equipment, machinery, plumbing systems, fixtures, and related mechanical systems to support safe and efficient operations.
- Inspect machinery and equipment for defects, wear, leaks, abnormal operation, or safety concerns, and complete repairs or adjustments as required.
- Dismantle, repair, reassemble, install, remove, and modify machinery or equipment to restore proper operation and improve reliability.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, equipment manuals, specifications, P&IDs, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and related documentation to support troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment improvements.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, compressed air, pump, valve, piping, and utility-related issues to identify root cause and implement corrective actions.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and downtime events with urgency to restore production and reduce repeat failures.
- Support downtime reduction by identifying recurring equipment issues, driving problem solving, recommending countermeasures, and improving maintenance practices.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on machinery, equipment, tools, molds, and support systems to improve uptime and equipment reliability.
- Operate, maintain, and repair plant support equipment, including boilers, softeners, compressors, pumps, and related systems.
- Complete work orders, PM records, repair notes, downtime details, troubleshooting findings, and other required maintenance documentation accurately.
- Support major repairs, equipment installations, equipment modifications, and contractor activities as required.
Tooling Repair and Maintenance
- Repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and modify tools, molds, molding guns, and tooling components to support production requirements.
- Troubleshoot tool and mold defects, including tooling-related issues on the press, and complete repairs or adjustments as needed.
- Construct, repair, and modify aluminum tools and molds from rough casting to production-ready condition using drawings, specifications, and proper tooling methods.
- Perform fabrication work using aluminum, carbon steel, welding equipment, lathes, milling machines, drills, measuring devices, hand tools, and other machine shop equipment.
- Install and repair plumbing on tools and molds as required.
- Follow tooling repair schedules and tooling preventative maintenance schedules to complete required work on time.
- Complete tooling documentation, including work orders, TQRs for new tools, repair records, modification records, and required forms.
- Plan layouts and build jigs, fixtures, brackets, tooling aids, and other support items needed for production, repair, safety, or continuous improvement activities.
Setup and Changeover Responsibilities
- Set up, change over, and cycle machines safely and efficiently in accordance with work instructions, production requirements, and quality procedures.
- Follow proper setup and cycling procedures in accordance with applicable quality and production work instructions.
- Transport, prepare, install, remove, and store molds using forklifts or other approved material handling equipment.
- Complete setup paperwork, production support documentation, and other required records accurately.
REQUIREMENTS:
- HS diploma or equivalent
- 3 to 5 years industrial manufacturing experience
- Good basic mechanical knowledge and application of compressed air, hydraulics and pneumatics, basic electrical, welding, pumps and preventative maintenance.
- Good understanding of the demands of production and knowledge of EPP processing
- Knowledge and application of Kurtz and Teubert steam chest molding machines
- Able to troubleshoot and problem solve effectively
- Able to read and interpret technical drawings
- Must be Team Player and able to work with minimal supervision
- Must have own tools (as defined by the Company)
- Must meet the physical requirements of the job
- Good communications skills
- Above average welding skills an asset
- Certification for operating Lift Trucks and Aerial Lift equipment in a safe manner & able to pass medical evaluation based on provincial standard.
- Able to work off shifts and overtime as required
